Summary of trip - Part 3

So it was now, Thursday July 3rd, we took a side trip to Schliersee and took a short boat ride around the lake. It is a pretty Alpine lake where the locals like to go swimming. The water looked icy to me. The funny thing too about German people is that they will change their clothes right there on the shoreline & jump in. I guess politely you should look away while they change into their swim clothes, but sometimes you don't know where you should be looking.

That evening the town where we were staying was having a volksfest (pronounced folks-fest). It's a big carnival like event with rides (it's funny that throughout the world people who work in these carnivals all look the same) and a huge tent with a beer garden inside. There are rows and rows of picnic type tables and everyone drinks from huge one liter glasses filled with beer, weisbier, or a great drink called a radler, which is 1/2 beer and 1/2 something like sprite (i think they call it a limo). It's very refreshing when your thirsty. So after eating giant pretzels and various types of wursts we headed back home to get ready for our train ride to Rome on Friday.
