Summary of trip - Part 1

So basically, here's a summary of what happened. We left on Monday, June 30th at 7pm on Delta to fly to Frankfurt, Germany. That evening though had some showers in Queens, so we only got off the ground at 8PM. The flight was good and we arrived in the morning in Germany. We were all exhausted though because I find it impossible to sleep on a plane. The good thing though was that the plane has a tv with a library of prerecorded movies and tv shows. I watched the film, The Golden Compass, which wasn't bad except for a very abrupt ending (I guess they were hoping for a sequel). Frankfurt Airport is pretty cool, it has a train station inside it. However, Delta comes into Terminal 2, so we has to take a shuttle bus over to the main terminal, so we could catch the train.

After validating our Eurail passes at the train station, we discovered that we couldn't get a seat reservation on the train we were planning to take because it was already underway. So we decided to take a chance and see if we could find some available seating on the next train to Munich. We ran down to the platform and got underway. It's approximately a 3 and 1/2 hour train trip to Munich. Everybody was sleepy and for the first 1/2 or so, we has to stand. Finally, we found some seats and the kids fell asleep. The train was a very modern ICE (inter city express) train. The nice thing about traveling with the Eurail pass is that it is all first class train travel. The trip was about 250 miles and during some parts of the trip we hit speeds of 186 miles per hour. Here's a couple of pictures of what the train looked like. European train travel is light years ahead of what we have. Very modern, very clean, very efficient and very reliable.


So after arriving at Munich we had to catch a local train to the suburb neighborhood of Miesbach (which is about 35 miles southeast from Munich)where we would be staying for a few days before heading out to Italy.
